Hi y'all,

We wanted to send a big thank you to you and everyone else that has donated to our Zeffy fundraising campaign so far! Your donations are giving us the confidence that we can keep our office space up and running. We wanted to share two testimonials from groups that use the CJE office organizing space weekly.

From Palestinian Students Alliance  www.instagram.com/psa.macewanPalestinian Students Alliance (PSA) is a student group from MacEwan University. They use the office once or twice a week and primarily host meetings and art builds, and occasionally workshops.

About PSA:Our work is centred in advocacy for Palestinian liberation as well as a variety of social justice issues that impact our communities. Particularly, marginalized communities that are often targeted and underrepresented. We combine education with community building and action to achieve our goals.

The impact of the office organizing space:We often joke that CJE has given our group a home but there’s a lot of reality in that. We faced a lot of uncertainty and instability as we dealt with the challenges that came with our work. As university students who do this work for free, we did not have the resources to rent a space or storage unit. We’d go from meeting place to meeting place every week while our supplies were scattered through our homes and it was not sustainable. The office being available to us and its proximity to MacEwan has allowed the space to become a safe place where our focus could go back to serving our mission and community. We’ve become more effective, efficient, and productive since starting to use the space.Since beginning to use it as a space for workshops, we’ve received many comments from attendees about how comforting and useful the office is. Considering our demographic often includes people who feel targeted and ostracized in their daily lives, this testimony was very important to us.

About Common HorizonCommon Horizon (CHC) is a mass movement of young workers who are coming together to take power away from the billionaire class and win solutions to the climate crisis that secure good work, address affordability and ensure a dignified life for all.The Edmonton Chapter meets weekly in the office for their planning and then also hosts a monthly public event in the office and bi-weekly union working group meetings.

This is what one of their core organizers shared about the impact of the organizing office space:“As long as I've been a member of CHC we have had the office space. I remember walking in for my first meeting and how impressed I was that this grassroots org had access to a working space! Post Covid, I think we're realizing just how much more can get done when we gather together in the same space. Having a safe space to regularly meet ensures we actually do all get together, and I find myself looking forward to our weekly meetings. Having a regular office space allows us to focus on actually accomplishing our groups goals without having to worry about allocating extra funds (or needing to plan too far ahead) for a space to host our public events. During my time with CHC I feel like the office has become a hub for other activist orgs, helping to foster collaboration, and building connections across the activist community.”“I think about how the space has become a hub for groups across the city. This has helped us to connect with other people and orgs we may not have otherwise. Leading to opportunities to collaborate and accomplish shared goals.”
